BALCONY GARDEN UPDATE – PART3

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

It’s been ages since I last wrote about my balcony garden.. The tomatoes have gone wild!! They’re totally taking over our balcony. Actually the whole balcony has gone through big chances. I need to take a shot of the balcony too, not just the plants.

The pea pics are older.. they grew up and were eaten.. I would plant more if the tomatoes would let me get to the box where I store some soil. Basil and parsley are being eaten too. And salad, which didn’t get to be in the pictures, is also being eaten alive. Oh, there are flowers on the strawberry, yes, that very strawberry  I’ve grown from a seed! I didn’t believe that would happen.

The tomatoes have flowers and green baby tomatoes. And the plants themselves are growing bigger and bigger. I don’t know if I should be cutting them or something before they really take over our balcony and the world after that!

Otherwise I’m doing fine too. Lots of work, but nice work, with Pori Jazz going on and all. In addition to journalistic work I’ve done some weddings too, for friends and family. Plus there’s this thing called summer.. I’m trying to enjoy it both at work and on my free time. I haven’t been able to go to summer cottage yet, but I’m planning on going in August when I have longer weekends. I’m really looking forward to that!

BALCONY GARDEN UPDATE

Tomatoes and basil are growing nicely. Or at least I think so. I’ve got no idea how they should look at this point :D I’m so looking forward to getting the balcony up and running. Cleaned that is. And I need to work on the floor there. After that’s finished it should be a nice relaxing place. And with fresh tomatoes and strawberries.. *dreams* Yep, I’m really looking forward to all of that :)

I should probably plant the tomatoes to even bigger jars already. I need to get more fresh soil before I do that though. And with huge jars I’m in trouble because I’ve got no idea where to put them while they’re still inside. Can’t put them on the stereos and printer where they’re located now. Hmmh.

BEGINNIGS OF MY BALCONY GARDEN

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

.. or so I hope :D The babies above are going to give me cherry tomatoes in the summer, when they’re all grown up. Or so I hope. I’m not good or experienced in this kind of thing, and I’m not even sure if our balcony is sunny enough, but there’s no harm in trying, is there?

The first pic(s) were taken March 19th, when the first life signs were spotted in the jar. The others were shot yesterday after I changed the babies to their own jars. I really hope this works and I’ll get to eat my very own tomatoes come summer.

I planted basil and some other herbs at the same time as the tomatoes. So far they’re looking good. They already smell (and taste) like basil, even though they’re still small :) I had hard time thinning them out because I didn’t want to throw away any of them. I put some in another jar, we’ll see if they’ll survive the harsh treatment they got.

I know that there’s not much variation in the images and there’s too many, but who cares (I don’t!), there’s plenty of room in teh internet after all :P

And speaking of images.. Miikka took some when I planted all these thingies and changed fresh soil for my other plants too. You can see them here.

This one has survived in my hands for almost a year now :D I got two small parts of it from a friend of mine last summer. I just sticked them into a jar and kept them in the balcony for the whole summer. And here they still are!
