Mom and dad came for a visit last weekend. We biked a lot around the city and played some mölkky and ate well etc.. it was a very nice weekend :) I took the snapshots above with my old 10d since my 5d was still in service. I’ve gotten it back now, but I still don’t know who’s going to pay for the broken shutter.. I won’t unless I absolutely have to. It even shouldn’t have gotten broken yet, I haven’t shot that much with it. But that’s a rant for another time, I’m too tired and happy right now to think bad things :P

Haven’t updated in a while.. it’s been a really really busy week! And it’s not even over yet :) I ended up taking the job at Kankaanpää. Even though I didn’t mean to. I called the owner (and my current boss) to say that I’m not coming for the second interview since I don’t want the job right now. She was really hard to say no to, and I went for the interview. And the following day (Thursday) she called and asked me to take the job. She was supposed to call on Friday and I wasn’t mentally prepared. And because of that (or some other strange reason) I said yes. It’s still hard to believe it :D

So on Monday I started there. It’s been ok, even nice. I like both of my co-workers :) The bad sides are that it’s so far away and that I can’t take all of the gigs Satakunnan Kansa offers to me. Though I made it very clear for my new employer that I don’t want to say no to Satakunnan Kansa too often. That I want to keep that door open too. I hope she understood how serious I was. I’m sure she did, she’s a smart woman. As a matter of fact I worked at SK today, and because of that I need to go to Kankaanpää tomorrow.

Strange how first nothing happens on work front and than suddenly everything happens at the same time. I guess it’s so that when no one is interested it really means that no one is interested. But when someone shows interest it in some mysterious way makes everyone interested. This week I’ve worked for three different employers – and I’ve got a full time job.

I need to go to bed now, I’ve got to wake up in the morning. The weather was gorgeous today. I wish it’s good on Sunday too when I’ve finally some free time :)

WHAT A WEEK!

..and it’s not even over yet :D I’ve had my hands full with lots of work. I held my first photography/image editing course for a smallish group this week. It was only three days but it took a lot more time than the actual school hours. My mom is a teacher so I know it’s not just the school hours they need to work, but still the amount of time that I spent making all the materials and assignments for the course took me by surprise. I don’t mind though, since I figured that if I do them properly now, even though it takes too much time, I might use them in the future too and save time than. Anyway, I liked teaching :) The group was pretty nice and I think we all learned a lot. I don’t feel comfortable posting pics from the course because I didn’t ask them if they’re ok with it. So I won’t :)

Today was an exiting day too. My first freelance photographer day at Satakunnan Kansa (newspaper). I went there for the morning meeting and got assigned two shoots. Both were with the same journalist for the culture pages. Interesting people I got to see and shoot too :) It was nice! The only bad thing was that my trusty 5d turned out to be not-so-trusty after all. It just broke down on me at the end of the first shoot. I’m so happy and relieved that I got decent shots before my cam stopped co-operating with me. I had a short pause between the two shoots and I ran (or walked really really fast) to Rajala (local camera shop I use) to get it sent to service. I really do hope that it doesn’t cost me too much! It’s the shutter I think. Now I’m without a camera for the next week or two, buhuuuu.. Well, I still got my 10d somewhere!

Aaaanywayyy.. I ran from Rajala back to Satakunnan Kansa and borrowed a camera there.. Two were free: the other one was Canon 1D MARKIII and the other Nikon D3. I really would have liked to try out the D3 but since I’m more familiar with Canons and didn’t have time to get into it I grapped the markIII. It was pretty sweet I tell you! Too bad that I can’t show the images here since the stories are still unpublished. Don’t even know when they’re gonna be in the paper but I think it’s going to take a while.

It’s strange how first nothing happens in a long time and than all of a sudden there’s almost too much to do! Next week is totally empty for me now and this week I had to say no for Satakunnan Kansa on Tuesday because of the teaching gig. That’s life I guess! I hope they like my pics at SK and that they call me the next time when they’re short of staff.

Oh, and we got a new telly! It’s nice and pretty! :D

FREEDOM!

I feel so good. Last night I made the decision about my job. I’m not going back there, or not at least in the next few months. Boy did I sleep well after deciding that! Not having to wake up early every morning and being forced to do a job I hate makes me really happy! Now I just need to find something else to do. If someone needs a photographer, please give a shout! :D

I had so much energy that I even went for an evening walk. I took a few snaps on the way with my old g2. G9 would be nice *drool* – more pocket size (the g2 is rather large for my pockets) and better image quality. And it’s definitely faster ready to take a shot than g2. G2 thinks long and hard before it’s ready for shooting after you put it on. Oh those early days of the digital revolution! I feel all nostalgic. NOT. ;D

Tomorrow.. what to do tomorrow? I have the whole day for me, how strange is that? I think I need to get my bicycle checked. I really felt like going for a bicycle ride today because the weather was really nice and warmish. My bike has never been to service and I think now is a good time. What else? I have a long to-do list, but I’m not sure where to start. I’m not going to decide now though, it feels better to have some freedom after this horribly workful year.
