SNAPPING AWAY

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Lot’s of snappies in this entry! We had a good Easter weekend. First we were at Tampere on Friday, but I didn’t take any shots there. In the evening we drove to Jämsänkoski, to visit my parents and to snowboard a little. I didn’t have a camera on the slopes but that’s only good because I don’t think anyone could handle more snappies than this :D

Anyway.. I think it’s enjoyable to forget everything you have ever learned about the technical side of photography and just snap snap snap.. allthough now it looks like I haven’t ever learned anything about the other sides either :D

My dad begun to play saxophone couple of years ago. I think it’s wonderful! And he has already learned so much, I’m very proud of him :)

Miikka and Kvaakku, my two favorite guys! ;D

My dad played with Kvaakku too..

We drove back home Sunday evening. Kvaakku was watching out the window the whole time. He’s a curious little thingie!

Now I should go to bed to gather some strength for one more week of sitting in the bus and in front of the screen at Kankaanpää. I’m so looking forward to May and freedom!

My parents came for a visit in the morning. We went downtown to check out the jazz street. We did some shopping too, but more about that later. It was nice, just to hang around :) Miikka had a one long gig in the morning and after he came back we all went to eat together. We tried a new place (at least new to us) and it was ok. Food was good and the place looked a little different. And now I’m so very tired that writing doesn’t feel like a smart thing to do. Bare with me, I’m just a small-brained little photographer! And for a photographer I have to say that I took some pretty bad snapshots with my old G2 – and even if that wasn’t enough I do look awful in the first pic. But that’s life :D

Anyway.. after getting our bellies filled we biked home and got together some warm clothes for the evening. The weather was really windy and there were some dark clouds seen almost in all directions at that moment. However when we got back to town it had all changed.. the sun was shining on almost cloudless sky. It was soooooo nice. We headed straight for Kirjurinluoto. The city arranged a big free concert to celebrate it’s 450th birthday. There were lots of artists performing during the four hour concert. And all of them (artists) were originally (or still) from Pori. There were something for everyone. Very good cocktail of different music styles from jazz to rock and back again. And most artist were backed up by the symphony orchestra of Pori. Pretty nice stuff. All artist played two songs so if you didn’t like one it didn’t take too long for him/her to stop :D

We sat there on the lawn and enjoyed the music and sun and it was wonderful. There were over 30 000 people there. Carlos Santana has gig on the same stage on Friday (PoriJazz festival) and all 30 000 tickets are sold out.. so the arena was pretty full! But everything happened surprisingly smoothly. I guess the sun and free music put everyone on a good enough mood :) I personally was on a great mood. This is how a day off of work should be spent! Anyway, we were back at home about half past ten and Miikka left for work at midnight. I didn’t get much sleep last night but I was on a really good mood at work too today – at least for the first couple of hours :D

Mom and dad came for a visit last weekend. We biked a lot around the city and played some mölkky and ate well etc.. it was a very nice weekend :) I took the snapshots above with my old 10d since my 5d was still in service. I’ve gotten it back now, but I still don’t know who’s going to pay for the broken shutter.. I won’t unless I absolutely have to. It even shouldn’t have gotten broken yet, I haven’t shot that much with it. But that’s a rant for another time, I’m too tired and happy right now to think bad things :P

Haven’t updated in a while.. it’s been a really really busy week! And it’s not even over yet :) I ended up taking the job at Kankaanpää. Even though I didn’t mean to. I called the owner (and my current boss) to say that I’m not coming for the second interview since I don’t want the job right now. She was really hard to say no to, and I went for the interview. And the following day (Thursday) she called and asked me to take the job. She was supposed to call on Friday and I wasn’t mentally prepared. And because of that (or some other strange reason) I said yes. It’s still hard to believe it :D

So on Monday I started there. It’s been ok, even nice. I like both of my co-workers :) The bad sides are that it’s so far away and that I can’t take all of the gigs Satakunnan Kansa offers to me. Though I made it very clear for my new employer that I don’t want to say no to Satakunnan Kansa too often. That I want to keep that door open too. I hope she understood how serious I was. I’m sure she did, she’s a smart woman. As a matter of fact I worked at SK today, and because of that I need to go to Kankaanpää tomorrow.

Strange how first nothing happens on work front and than suddenly everything happens at the same time. I guess it’s so that when no one is interested it really means that no one is interested. But when someone shows interest it in some mysterious way makes everyone interested. This week I’ve worked for three different employers – and I’ve got a full time job.

I need to go to bed now, I’ve got to wake up in the morning. The weather was gorgeous today. I wish it’s good on Sunday too when I’ve finally some free time :)
