FESTIVALS

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

Today we drove downtown with our bicycles. There was a small but very nice music festival at Annikinkatu. This was the last time it was held because the city owns the old house(s) and it’s beeing sold next fall. I really hope (against all odds) that it continues to be a nice place and the people who live there now get a change to live there in the future too.

There was also a samba thingie going through the town in the afternoon. It was nice to watch the dancers because they all seemed to have fun. Allthough if I had to choose between the festivals I’d definitely go for the one at Annikinkatu – I love both the spirit of the people and the place.

RUISROCK 2006

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

What a great weekend! The weather was perfect, the bands were great and I didn’t even burm my skin! And we got our car to a really good spot close to the festival area and no one broke it – and we even managed to sleep for an hour or two in it.

The festival was sold out on saturday and sunday, I think there were 25 thousand people there on both days. That’s a lot of people in a small area, but as usual on festivals (most) people were a lot more relaxed and open minded than usually.

My fav from the bands was of course CMX, they played a really good gig. Maybe even the best I’ve seen from them in festivals – not that I remember all festivals gigs since there’s been quite many in the past 11 years. Of course festival gigs aren’t as good as club gigs, but still, a great one in Ruisrock :)

I saw lots of other bands too. I’ve never before seen the Cardigans live and I really enjoyed them too. Too bad that it was at the same time as YUP, I only saw half of their set. The Crash, PMMP and Viikate were pleasant surprises. Ismo Alanko säätiö had a great set too. And despite some techincal difficulties in the beginning of their set Mew ended saturday night in such a nice way. 22-pistepirkko is great summer music and I’ve always enjoyed seeing Maija Vilkkumaa on stage. Flogging Molly sure was energetic and it was nice to eat ice cream and hear Morrissey in the background. There really weren’t any dissapointments though I have to say I wasn’t that impressed with Tool. But I think it’s just because I wasn’t familiar with their stuff and they played last on sunday night and I was pretty tired. I saw or at least heard other bands too, but I’m such a bad writer and feel like going outside now..

So all in all a great weekend! I’m sure we’ll go next year too if CMX and other good bands play there. I absolutely need to see CMX live at least once every summer :D
